Welcome to FanFiction Writers Anonymous!

I started this club mainly because fanfiction writers often get a bad rep and very little respect from 'real' writers.

Fanfiction is not considered 'real' writing because its about someone else's characters, someone else's stories. You're not being original when writing fanfiction.

And let's face it, there's no way you can make any money off of it. Not without getting sued for every penny you're worth.

Now, I don't know how many of you have encountered disrespect from others when you write fanfiction. I personally gained some derision from a friend whom I respect as both an excellent author and good companion. Has yet to stop me though!

Why?
Mainly because it's fun.

But also, I think fanfiction is a great tool that can teach a person a lot about writing. It's a good place for many younger writers to get their feet wet and start figuring out the ropes of writing. It's also an excellent way to learn about character, how to keep characters IN character and still fulfill the plots. To express character in an interesting and realistic fashion.


So, this club is a support group for those of us who pour our hearts into stories about video game characters, fictional people from books, and characters on television.

This is a place for people to meet one another and get help.

Submissions are now allowed here at FFWA!

The type of submissions are specific (non-fiction is what is excepted). So please, read the rules before submitting. Rules can be found here.

Also, if you have any links to sites regarding fanfiction, be they clubs on DeviantArt, Livejournal Communities, or great places to archive, send the club a note with the link and we'll add it to our Links section.

Rules:

1. You do not have to have any fanfiction written upon joining the club. You should be at least trying to write fanfiction or thinking sincerely about it.

2. ALL fanfiction is accpeted, so long as it is fanfiction. Video games, movies, books, television series, you name it.

3. You must support fanfiction writers, of all genre. This doesn't mean you have to read everyone else's fanfiction, or like it. But you must respect the work being written.

4. NC-17 (graphic sex and/or violence) work is respected and accepted by this club as it is a form of fanfiction. HOWEVER, this club is stationed on deviantArt and we follow ALL of the rules set by deviantArt. Which means there is a limit as to how explicit you can be with your work here. If you're uncertain, review the guidelines of deviantArt or send the club a note, asking.

5. Be polite and welcoming to everyone. No flaming anyone.

6. Add the icon to your journal or signature, please. To do this you type :icon ffwa: without the space. Should look like this:

Icons are not allowed in signatures at this time. You can link to the club in your signature with with this tag :dev ffwa:, without the space. It will look like this: ~ffwa

7. Please devwatch the club. This is not required but it is strongly suggested. Most club activities will be updated on the journal. It's not always easy to remember to stop by regularly, I know that, particularly when updates are at random. However, devwatching will solve that problem, alerting you to changes and events in the club (but remember to mark the journal as watched when adding the club).

To Join:
Send the club a NOTE requesting to join. Comments on the page will likely be missed. A note PLEASE.

In the note, please add the link to your fanfiction archive, if you have one. If you currently don't have an archive, that's okay. However, PLEASE send one if you can. Sending a link to your archive in your joining note will save you from having to send a note later and will save me time.

Furthermore, please devwatch the club, so that you are aware of updates. This is not required, it is, however, recommended.
